- Smash Burgers Instructions:
- Begin by prepping your burger sauce and cream cheese spread and have them ready for when your burgers are freshly cooked. The sauced can be made in advance and refrigerated, but making them fresh is ideal!
- For the cream cheese spread you will just mix all ingredients together until smooth and seasonings are incorporated evenly.
- For burger sauce, you will dice and sauté your onion in butter, and then turn the heat low and caramelize for 15 minutes or so.
- Mix up all of the other burger ingredients in a bowl and then add your onions.
- Depending on how big you want your burgers you can divide your burger into 5-7 balls of meat. Roll them into a circular shape so you can have them ready for smashing. You will slice your onions, and your pepper jack cheese and have them on a plate ready to add to your burger.
- Have your package of bacon ready to grill as well, and your salt and pepper on hand.
- For buns, I did my homemade sourdough buns(you can find my recipe on instagram) or you can make any homemade bun or get any store-bought bun you prefer.
- Ready to cook!
- I used my Blackstone to cook this meal, but you can do it on a griddle or in a cast iron pan, it just may take a bit longer.
- Either on half of your griddle surface or in another pan, you will want to cook your bacon to your preferred texture and make sure to salt it! Have that cooking while you start cooking your smash patties.
- Begin by heating up the surface you are cooking on. Take a prepared ball of beef and place it on the surface. Use your burger press to press down firmly and smash your burger patty until thin(see notes for a burger smashing hack).
- After smashing your patty, top with sliced onions and salt and pepper generously. Allow your patty to cook for 1-2 minutes(depending on how hot your surface is.
- Next, flip your patty and top with your pepper jack cheese and allow it to melt while you are cooking the other side.
- I prefer toasting my buns, so I add a bit of butter and toast the insides before dressing my burger--optional but makes your burger taste better in my opinion!
- Once you have completed the cooking, it's time to make your delicious smash burgers!
- Start by grabbing your bun, and spread your cream cheese spread on both top and bottom buns.
- Then place 1-2 burger patties on your bun and add bacon slices.
- Then top with burger sauce and your other toasted bun.
- Serve right away and enjoy!
Notes
I use a piece of parchment paper between the beef ball and my burger press. This prevents the burger from sticking to the press and can be used over and over as you smash your burgers.
