Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

- 1 tsp1 tsp1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 Tbsp1 Tbsp1 Tbsp Baking Powder
- 0.5 tsp0.5 tsp0.5 tsp Salt
- 0.5 cup0.5 cup0.5 cup Butter, Salted
- 111 Egg
- 1 cup1 cup1 cup Whole Milk
- 0.5 cup0.5 cup0.5 cup Sour Cream, Optional
- 0.25 cup0.25 cup0.25 cup Butter, Salted
Process

- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the softened butter using a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Gradually add to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together (don’t overwork it).
- Shape into a round loaf and place on the baking sheet. Cut a deep “X” on top with a sharp knife.
- Brush with melted butter and bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter!
