Process

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the softened butter using a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Gradually add to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together (don’t overwork it).
