Process

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Line a 9-inch square or round baking pan so you can pull the cake out of the pan.
  2. Make the streusel topping

    1. Heat butter in a small pot on the stove until melted.
    2. Stir in remaining ingredients, with the exception of the nuts.
    3. Mix with a fork to combine.
    4. Stir in the pecans or walnuts until combined.

    Make cake batter

    1. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl and whisk.
    2. In a separate bowl combine all wet ingredients and mix well.
    3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix again.
    4. Add in the chopped apples and mix until combined.
    5. Pour the batter into prepared pan and sprinkle the top with the streusel topping..
    6. Bake 45-55 in or until toothpick comes out clean.
    7. If topping starts to get too brown, cover it with foil and continue to bake until done.

    Make the glaze

    1. Once cake is cooled make the glaze.
    2. In a bowl combine powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
    3. Slowly add milk to reach the desired consistency. You want it thick but pourable so you may not need to use all the milk.
    4. Drizzle over cooled cake.

Notes

You can make this cake using regular flour, just swap it out where needed. To store the cake, either use a domed cake lid or cover with aluminum foil so the topping stays crisp. It does not need to be refrigerated.
