Brown Butter Pecan Cookie Bars
Thanksgiving desserts don't always have to revolve around pies. These brown butter pecan chocolate chip cookie bars are perfect for gathering with family and friends and basking in all that gratitude we share during this time of year. Plus, brown butter makes everything better.
Ingredients
- 2 cups2 cups2 cups All Purpose Flour, (256g)
- .5 cup.5 cup.5 cup Cane Sugar, (50g)
- 1.25 cup1.25 cup1.25 cup Brown Sugar, dark (250g)
- 222 Eggs, room temperature
- 8 oz8 oz8 oz Unsalted Butter, browned and cooled (2 sticks, or 16 tbsp)
- 1 tsp1 tsp1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 cup1 cup1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup1 cup1 cup Pecans, chopped
- 1 Tbsp1 Tbsp1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
For the Brown Butter
- Add the butter to a light-bottomed medium pan and turn flame on to a medium heat. It will begin to sputter and foam.
- Continue to stir the butter and keep on a medium heat, ensuring the solids do not burn at the bottom. The aromas from the browned butter should be intense with nutty and buttery notes.
- Let the butter brown; keeping an eye on the butter for 3-4 minutes and turn off the heat. Scrape the browned bits and the browned butter into a bowl and set in the fridge for approximately 1 hour.
For the Bars
- Preheat the oven to 350˚. Cream the browned butter and sugars together with a hand mixer.
- Add in eggs one at a time and mix. and vanilla extract mix.
- Add in flour and baking soda and mix. Add chocolate chips and pecans. Fold into dough.
- Pour the batter into a 9x9 baking tin lined with parchment. Spread evenly so that the batter is distributed throughout the tin.
- Bake in the oven for 20-22 minutes, letting cool for 15 before slicing.
