Nonna Filomena’s Snowflake Cookies (Pizzelle)
These Italian traditional cookies are a recipe that I honestly had to measure out myself! Anyone who's grown up in an Italian household knows that Nonnas usually don't measure anything or have any written recipes. Thankfully, I took some notes many moons ago to preserve this taste of my childhood. Pizzelle are SO easy to make and are sure to be a crowd pleaser for anyone trying them! 🇮🇹❤️
Ingredients

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- In a large bowl, mix the following ingredients with a fork; eggs, margarine, vanilla extract, sugar and sambuca
- Add in your flour and begin to mix with an electric hand mixer
- Dough will be ready once it reaches almost a pancake mixture consistency
- Open and plug in your pizzelle machine, wait until the surface is hot
- Place about 1 tbsp of the cookie batter in the middle of each pizzelle slot (making 2 cookies at a time)
- Close the pizzelle machine and await for the light on your system to tell you when the cookies are ready (a few minutes, until golden brown)
- Remove from pizzelle machine and place them onto an old table cloth to cool down fully
- Repeat the process until batter is finished
- Take a bite and enjoy!
Notes
You can also dip these into chocolate and make them fancy for any party or event. Depending on your brand of vanilla extract, you may need to use more. Josie's Sweet Caviar makes it simple. A little goes a long way! You can store the cookies for about 1 week on a dish covered with a napkin. Placing them in a tupperware can make them soft again! We want a crispy and crunchy bite! Depending on the size of your spoons of dough, you can make approx 36 cookies.
