Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the Sausage: In a separate pan, place the four Lottie’s links in about 1/2 inch of water in a saute pan on medium-high heat. Cover the pan and cook for about 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, remove the lid, turn the sausage, and let the remaining liquid evaporate. Once the liquid is gone, the sausage will begin to caramelize, giving it a nice golden-brown color and a satisfying "snap."
- Once caramelized, remove the sausage from the pan and slice it. (Optional: You can return the slices to the pan for an additional quick sear if you'd like extra crispiness.)
- Prepare the Sauce: In a new pan, pour in the marinara sauce and heat it over medium-high until warmed through. Once the marinara is hot, reduce the heat slightly, stir in the heavy whipping cream, and add chili flakes to taste. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes to thicken.
- Combine Pasta, Sausage, and Sauce: Add the cooked penne and sliced sausage to the pan with the sauce, stirring everything together to coat evenly. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Season and Serve: Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed. Garnish with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan (if using).
