Extra Crunchy Homemade Everything But the Bagel Croutons (Edit recipe)

If you make homemade bread and your yeast happens to be dead (expired), don’t throw the bread away once it has come out of the oven. That loaf of bread that hasn’t risen and is undercooked can be turned into the crunchiest croutons ever!

Ingredients

Process

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, add your flour, yeast and sea salt. Mix together. Pour your warm water into the mixture and stir until the batter forms. It may be a bit runny, but that’s okay.
  2. 2. Using plastic wrap, cover the top of the bowl. Let it sit at room temperature for 6 hours or overnight.
  3. 3. Once the bread has sat long enough, you should see it double in size (unless your yeast is dead like mine). Sprinkle flour over the bottom of a cast iron skillet. Cover your hands in flour. Forming your bread, place it onto the cast iron skillet.
  4. 4. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Place the bread in the oven once preheated. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown on top and it’s completely cooked.
  5. ** if you want to make croutons, bake for 35-40 so that it’s a bit undercooked.
  6. FOR THE CROUTONS:
  7. 1. Taking your cooked loaf of bread, chop into thick bite size square pieces.
  8. 2. Throw the pieces into the air fryer, coat with olive oil and sprinkle with everything but the bagel seasoning. Cook in the air fryer at 400 for 6-8 minutes or until crunchy like you like them!
  9. 3. Enjoy as a snack or over salad!

Notes

FLOUR: You do not have to use bread flour. You are able to substitute this for regular, all purpose flour if you would like. CROUTON SEASONING: You do not have to use everything but the bagel seasoning. You can season these however you would like.
