Only 3 ingredients! Have you ever had fried plantains? Once the plantains are ripe enough, you can slice them up and fry them for a tasty treat. That caramelized exterior surrounding the sweet and gooey-soft, banana-like center is absolutely amazing! Even better, drizzle & dip them in melted vegan chocolate. The perfect snack or dessert the kiddos will love too.

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Heat oil in large, nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Arrange plantain slices in a single layer in hot oil (edges can be touching). Cook until golden brown on bottom side, about 4-to-8 minutes, depending on the type of cooking surface you use (a gas cooktop or induction cooktop will be quicker).Carefully turn plantains over using a fork. Cook additional 3-to-7 minutes, or until plantains are golden brown.
  3. Remove plantains to paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Drizzle plantains with melted chocolate and use the rest for dipping. Serve immediately. Serves 3-4 people as a snack or dessert.

Notes

*Note: Ripe plantains will have an all-black outer peel or mostly-black outer peel with small flecks of yellow. Do not fry plantains with a green or yellow outer peel as they will not taste sweet and delicious. You need to wait until the outer peel is mostly black. Sometimes you can buy them already ripe at the grocery store.* Remaining oil in skillet can be discarded, once cooled. Melt chocolate chips in small, microwave-safe bowl, on high for 30 seconds; stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second increments, stirring in between, until chocolate is just melted and smooth.
