Gluten Free Cinnamon Sugar Walnut Scones
I’m so excited to introduce a new scone flavor to my lineup! Meet my Cinnamon Sugar Walnut Scone, topped with a sweet cinnamon sugar glaze, all gluten free of course! These are made with Lark Ellen Farm’s organic, sprouted walnuts, which are made in a dedicated gluten free facility, and Primal Palate’s gluten free flour, one of my favorites to bake with. I also use their Cinnamon Sugar Cookie blend throughout, which is one of my favorite baking staples and my little secret scone ingredient! I hope you love these as much as I do, and be sure to check out my roundup of all my other scone flavors for even more favorites.

Prep the Walnuts
- Start by toasting your walnuts in a pan over medium-low heat for 5–7 minutes, tossing often until fragrant and lightly golden (not burnt). Remove them from the pan to cool.
- Sprinkle 1 tbsp of the cinnamon sugar cookie blend onto the walnuts, give them a toss until coated, then chop them up and set aside.
Make the Dough
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons of the cinnamon sugar and mix until evenly combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, oil and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, then gently fold in the toasted walnuts.
Shape & Prep the Scones
- *For larger, thicker scones: Place the dough on a lined baking sheet and shape it into an 8-inch round, about 1 inch thick. Using a sharp knife, press straight down to cut into 8-10 wedges. Avoid sawing back and forth.
- *For smaller, crispier scones: Place the dough on a lined baking sheet and divide it into 2 equal portions. Shape each into a 4-inch round, about 1 inch thick. Using a sharp knife, press straight down to cut each round into 8 wedges, for 16 scones total. Avoid sawing back and forth.
- **If mix-ins fall out while shaping the dough, gently press them back in or discard any extras.
- Arrange the scones, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Brush the tops lightly with milk, then sprinkle the tops generously with more cinnamon sugar before baking. If desired, add extra untoasted walnuts before baking.
Bake the Scones
- Bake at 350°F for 27–30 minutes, until the exterior is golden all around and the bottoms are slightly darker. (Baking time may vary by oven and scone size. Watch for that golden crust, as it's the best indicator they're ready.)
- After about 10 minutes, transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Glaze the Scones
- Combine the powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk. Whisk until smooth. If needed, add a few more drops of milk to reach your desired consistency.
- Once the scones are completely cooled, drizzle with the glaze and top with additional walnuts, if desired. The glaze will set as it sits.
