Instant Pot Red Wine Beef Stew
If you have an instant pot, you need to make this easy & delicious, allergy-friendly beef stew. A full bodied red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, adds a wonderful depth of flavor to this cozy beef stew that you’ll be making on repeat all winter long. Definitely dip some crusty bread into the luscious red wine-kissed sauce too. Truly so good. This is my older son’s favorite winter meal.
Ingredients
- 3 - 4 Tbsp3 - 4 Tbsp3 - 4 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 whole1 whole1 whole Yellow Onion, Peeled and chopped
- 8 whole8 whole8 whole Carrots, Peeled, halved lengthwise and sliced 1-inch long
- 8 cloves8 cloves8 cloves Garlic, Peeled and roughly chopped
- 1.5 lb1.5 lb1.5 lb Baby Dutch Yellow Potatoes, Halved
- 1 Tbsp1 Tbsp1 Tbsp Sage, Fresh sage; finely chopped
- 2.5 lb2.5 lb2.5 lb Beef Cubed Steak, *Buy packages that say “beef stew meat” in cut chunks
- 2.5 tsp2.5 tsp2.5 tsp Kosher Salt
- 0.75 tsp0.75 tsp0.75 tsp Turmeric, Organic ground turmeric (optional)
- 12 oz12 oz12 oz Tomato Paste, Or 3/4 cup marinara sauce
- 0.75 cup0.75 cup0.75 cup Water
- 0.75 cup0.75 cup0.75 cup Cabernet Sauvignon Red wine

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- Coat bottom of 6-to-8-quart instant pot with olive oil.
- Set to “Sauté mode” for 5 minutes. Add onion &, carrots, stirring occasionally for 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and potatoes. Continue stirring frequently for 2 minutes.
- Turn off “Sauté mode.” Add sage, beef stew meat, kosher salt & turmeric; stir.
- Add tomato paste, water and red wine; stir.
- Close & seal instant pot lid. Select “Pressure Cook” then adjust timer to 25 minutes on high setting. If your instant pot has a “Keep Warm” setting, turn that on in case you want to make this in the morning or afternoon for an evening dinner. Serves 6-8.
