Grilled Focaccia Steak Sandwich. The perfect summer sandwich filled with thinly sliced steak, basil mayo, tomato, lettuce and burrata. Make these perfectly seasoned steaks on the grill or open fire. Topped with primal palate steak seasoning and basted in butter for extra flavor.

Process

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. About an hour before grilling remove the steaks from the refrigerator and sprinkle about one teaspoon of kosher salt on each steak. Flip over and repeat on the other side.
  2. Heat a grill to medium-high heat. Once hot, rub a little olive oil on each steak
  3. Place the steaks on the grill along with a cast iron skillet.
  4. Cook the steak for about 2-3 mins and then flip over and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Remove steaks to a plate and sprinkle on the primal palate steak seasoning. About one tablespoon per steak.
  6. Add add 4 tablespoons of butter to the cast iron skillet and then move the steaks to the skillet and spoon the melted butter over each steak. Cook for about 2 minutes and then flip over and repeat with the other side of the steak.
  7. Remove from the pan and let cool on a cutting board for about 10 minutes and then slice thinly.
  8. While steaks are cooling combine all the mayo ingredients in a small bowl and stir.
  9. When you are ready to assemble slice the focaccia bread. Spread on the basil mayo. Layer with thinly sliced steak, burrata, lettuce and tomato. Include any of your other favorite toppings.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

If you have the time salt the steaks the night before or morning of and place them in the refrigerator. It will give them an even better flavor. Just pull out of the refrigerator about an hour before cooking.

You can also cook this recipe over an open fire. You may just need to adjust cooking times based on your coals and heat output.

Feel free to get creative and add any of your favorite sandwich toppings.

You can cook the steak to your desired doneness. This recipe yields a steak cooked to about medium.
