Passion Fruit Glazed Meatballs
This was a recipe MONTHS in the making! It's a unique & delicious twist on a meatball recipe, combining savory flavors with the sweet & tangy taste of passion fruit!
After meeting in Austin earlier this year at Siete Foods HQ, Michelle Daniels(@backporchpaleo) and I have been so excited to create a recipe together! Michelle created her own version of this recipe, using fresh passion fruit (versus frozen) and with other similar ingredients!

- 1 - 2 Tbsp1 - 2 Tbsp1 - 2 Tbsp Real Salt - Redmond, to taste
Process
Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk to create a thick-like paste, also known as a panade.
- Set this mixture to the side and let sit for a 10-12 minutes until the breadcrumbs absorb the milk.
- Add the ground meat, egg, minced garlic, shallot, parsley, and seasonings to a large bowl. Mix until well combined, be careful not to over-mix.
- You can either bake your meatballs at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, or until fully cooked at 165 degrees.
- You can also cook over a large skillet. Add oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, browning them on all sides. Once browned, remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet (or a new skillet), add the passion fruit, honey, water, tamari, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine. Add salt to taste.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- Gradually add the arrowroot slurry, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook the sauce until it thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Taste and adjust sweetness or tanginess by adding more honey, salt, or vinegar, if needed.
- Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the passion fruit sauce.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, ensuring they are cooked through and infused with the sauce.
- Serve the passion fruit meatballs hot, garnished with extra parsley if desired.
Notes
- A Panade: is a mixture of bread, crackers, or breadcrumbs mixed with milk and used in meat-based recipes to keep meat moist while cooking!
- Be careful when you're mixing your meatballs. Over-mixing can make meatballs tough!
- This recipe can also use FRESH passion fruit!
