Jalapeño Passion Fruit Margarita (Edit recipe)

If you are a margarita lover and enjoy a fiery twist, these Jalapeño Passion Fruit Margaritas are for you! This recipe is all thanks to my husband, who's been perfecting it for years. They're a hit with his family (and with me too!) and are always the go-to whenever we're in the mood for a cocktail. *Quick note: This recipe includes a homemade sour mix, which yields more than you'll need, so you won't be using it all (check the instructions for more info).

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results

Homemade Sour Mix

  1. In a small bowl, combine the lemon juice and lime juice.
  2. In a small saucepan, mix the water and sugar together over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves, stirring frequently.
  3. Remove from the heat and let it cool.
  4. Once cooled, pour the sugar-water mixture into the bowl with lemon and lime juices.
  5. Stir well to combine. Set aside.

Margaritas

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the tequila, triple sec, Grand Manier, 1.5 cups of sour mix, sliced jalapeños and passion fruit pulp. Mix well.
  2. When ready to serve, add ice to a cocktail shaker along with some margarita mix, then shake vigorously until well combined and chilled.
  3. Optional: run a lime slice around the rim, then dip into Tajín. Then, fill your cocktail glass with ice, pour in the margarita mix, then top off your drink with a lime slice and one more jalapeño slice for good measure.

Notes

If you prefer a sweeter margarita, opt for 1 cup of sugar instead of 3/4 cup in this recipe. For a milder heat, remove the seeds of the jalapeño before shaking it up. If fresh passion fruit isn't readily available, you can often find the pulp in the freezer section of select grocery stores. // Quick notes on the homemade sour mix: It's recommended to prepare the sour mix ahead of time, allowing it to cool before blending everything together. The recipe for this sour mix yields more than you'll need, so you won't be using it all (check the instructions for more info!)
