Make the crisp

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Grease an 8x8 baking pan and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well then add the cubed butter.
  3. Using a pastry cutter, a fork, or your fingers cut the butter into the flour/oat mixture until the butter is in pea-size pieces.
  4. Place the bowl in refrigerator while preparing the pear filling.

Make the pear filling

  1. Peel and slice pears into a large bowl.
  2. Add the cinnamon, brown sugar, arrowroot, or cornstarch, a pinch of salt, and the zest of half of a lemon to the bowl.
  3. Mix well then place the pears into the greased baking pan. Then place the baking pan on a baking sheet to catch any spills that may occur.
  4. Top the pears with the oatmeal mixture.
  5. Bake 30-35 minutes or until the top is slightly browned and the pears are bubbly.
  6. Add sea salt flakes (Optional)

Notes

Once cooled, the pear crisp should be stored in the refrigerator and warmed up slightly before serving.
