Savory Waffle Soup Toppers (Edit recipe)

SAVORY WAFFLE SOUP TOPPERS! Friends, these are made with our original PIE CRUST recipe or our PIE CRUST MIX! Can you say "WHAT A FUN, FANTASTIC & TASTY" idea! If you're using a round waffle iron like us, you'll get 16 delicious little waffle wedges. If you have a traditional waffle recipe you could get up to 24. Experiment with different herbs & add-ins to suit the flavor profile to match the soup you're serving them with. Serving them with a spicy chili, try some cumin & cilantro as add-ins. Or how about a clam chowder, add in some dry mustard powder & paprika. The possibilities are endless!

Ingredients

Process

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Make pie crust as directed, adding additional seasonings listed.
  2. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Divide into 4 dough balls for Belgium round waffles, or 6 for standard waffle maker and flatten slightly into a disc.
  4. Once waffle iron is ready, place disc in waffle iron, close lid & cook.
  5. When waffle is no longer steaming, remove & brush with melted ghee if you'd like, then repeat with remaining discs.
  6. Sprinkle with kosher salt and enjoy!

Notes

TIP: stick to dividing the dough into 4 for the Belgium waffle maker, otherwise the dough will not be thick enough to make contact with the waffle iron & will result in less golden color & more of a steamed waffle then crispy!
