I have fond memories of picking and cleaning green beans and peas fresh from the garden along side my grandma. Both of my grandmas were cooks so I learned early on how to cook and loved being in the kitchen. This recipe is simple, but takes a bit of time. Trust me it is well worth the wait! These beans are traditional southern food, with a twist for flair of flavor. I hope you enjoy.

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Cook the bacon over medium heat until done, but not crispy. Remove from pan and set aside.
  2. Cook the onion, garlic, and butter in pan for 3-4 minutes. Stir to ensure it doesn't burn.
  3. Add the green beans, stir to mix everything up.
  4. Add in the broth, seasoning, salt, and pepper, cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Cover and cook on medium-low for 90 minutes to 2 hours.
  6. Periodically stir and check, add a bit more broth if needed.
  7. Add the bacon in. Stir and serve.

Notes

If you are putting into a serving dish I like to drain some of the broth out. The Cajun seasoning is not required to make this dish delicious, but I love the added spice. We lived in the south for many years and I just adore Cajun food 🙂
