Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Skillet

Cabbage rolls are typically made with ground meat, rice and seasonings, stuffed into steamed cabbage leaves and rolled up, then cooked in a savory tomato sauce. The process is a labor love, for sure. In this easy version, we're taking ground protein and diced cabbage then simmering in any flavor of Mesa de Vida's globally inspired cooking sauces. The fruit, vegetable, spices and herbs are already in the bottle prepped and ready for you! Caribbean, Creole, Latin, Mediterranean or Moroccan flavors - which flavor adventure will this delicious stew take your tastebuds? Simply serve this healthy stew over cooked rice and dig in. Ingredients
- 2 tsp2 tsp2 tsp Avocado Oil, or fat of choice
- 1 lb1 lb1 lb Ground Beef, or chicken, pork, plant-based ground meat alternative, or 2 cups of beans
- 2 cups2 cups2 cups Cabbage, cut into 1" dice
- 1 whole1 whole1 whole Latin Inspired Flavor Starter Sauce - Mesa de Vida, or any other Mesa de Vida flavor sauce
- .25 cup.25 cup.25 cup Water
- 28 oz28 oz28 oz Crushed Tomatoes
- .25 tsp.25 tsp.25 tsp Salt, to taste

Process
Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. When hot, add the oil/fat (if using) and swirl to coat. Add the protein to the pan, crumbling and stirring often, until about 80% browned.
- Add the cabbage, cover and cook about 5 minutes until lightly wilted.
- Add the Mesa de Vida cooking sauce, 1/4 cup water (shake it out in the bottle to get all of the goodness out), canned tomatoes and salt to taste.
- Bring to a simmer, the lower the heat to low and cover. Simmer for 25-30 minutes until the cabbage is soft and tender.
- Serve spooned over hot cooked rice or pasta, mashed potatoes or cauliflower mash. Enjoy!
