Process
Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
- To make the cake, preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
- Grease the edges of a heart shaped cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- Add all the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix.
- Next add all the wet ingredients to the bowl and stir together until combined.
- Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is cooking, prepare the frosting. Add the turmeric to about 2 1/2 cups of frosting. Then in a separate container, add the beet powder to the remaining 1/2 cup of frosting.
- Once the cake has completely cooled, frost the cake with the yellow frosting first. Then using the cookie cutters, place an outline where you will pipe the frosting for the phrase you choose. Finally, pipe the pink frosting onto the cake to fill the letter outlines.
Notes
To make AIP, omit eggs and increase pumpkin to 1 cup. And then cook for 45 minutes. // If you are looking for an AIP, Paleo or Vegan Vanilla Frosting try this one. // 1 teaspoon vanilla powder is a good substitute for the vanilla extract in this recipe. // If you don’t have beet powder or ground turmeric, you could use food coloring. Just make sure not to use an artificial food dye. // We chose the phrase ‘bite me’ but there are many candy heart sayings. Such as ‘you rock,’ ‘love me tender,’ ‘my way,’ ‘I got u babe,’ and ‘ur mine.’
