Dairy Free Onion Dip (Edit recipe)

Growing up, we would make an onion dip with a French onion seasoning packet and sour cream. We always had that dip on holidays, parties, and get-togethers. I wanted to create a similar dip that didn’t require a lot of ingredients and also didn’t use a seasoning packet. This dip brings back all those childhood memories and tastes even better than what we used to make. It takes a few minutes to caramelize the onions, but it’s definitely worth the effort.

  1. In a large sauté pan on medium-low heat, add the ghee. Once it’s melted, add the onion and sea salt. Stirring occasionally, sauté the onions until they caramelize and are golden brown, about 20 minutes.
  2. Add 3 teaspoon of coconut aminos to the onions and stir everything together. Remove the pan from the heat to let the onions cool.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk the sour cream, mayonnaise, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of coconut aminos until the mixture is smooth.
  4. When the onions are cool, add them to the sour cream mixture and whisk to combine everything thoroughly.
  5. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to set up. Serve with sliced veggies and/or chips.
