This might be the only apple dessert you will want to make during the fall. It is a cookie base, topped with cooked apple pie filling, a crumb topping, and then drizzled with a powdered sugar glaze when cool.

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Heat a cast iron skillet or stainless steel skillet over medium heat, and add the 2 tablespoons of butter to cook the apples.
  2. Add the chopped apples, and saute over medium heat for 10 minutes, turning down to medium low if the heat is too high.
  3. Add the brown sugar and Apple Cinnamon Little Palates seasoning to the apples, and stir to combine evenly.
  4. Cook the apples until they are fork tender and glossy, then allow to cool while you make the cookie batter.
  5. Melt your room temperature butter over medium low heat, turn the heat up to medium once the butter is melted to cook the melted butter until it browns if desired. Browning the butter is not necessary. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.
  6. Preheat your oven to bake at 375 degrees, and lightly grease a 9x9 square baking pan with oil.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, weigh the flower, and whisk in the baking powder, salt, and Apple Cinnamon seasoning.
  8. Whisk in the white and brown sugar.
  9. Pour in the melted butter, and stir to combine.
  10. Whisk the egg with the vanilla, and pour into the batter. mix to combine evenly.
  11. Pour the batter into your prepared baking dish, pressing it into an even layer.
  12. Pour the cooked apples over the batter, spreading into an even layer.
  13. Sprinkle caramel baking chips over the apples and batter.
  14. Combine the flour, sugar, and cold cubed butter together in a small bowl with your hands, and then top the dessert with the crumb topping.
  15. Place the pan into the center of the oven, on the middle rack, and bake for 35 minutes.
  16. Whisk together the powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth. Start with 2 tablespoons of cream, and add more until you have a glaze that can be drizzled over the bars.
  17. Allow the apple pie bars to cool, and then drizzle with the glaze and serve.
