Cabbage rolls are typically made with ground meat, rice and seasonings, stuffed into steamed cabbage leaves and rolled up, then cooked in a savory tomato sauce. The process is a labor love, for sure. Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. When hot, add the oil/fat (if using) and swirl to coat. Add the protein to the pan, crumbling and stirring often, until about 80% browned.
  2. Add the cabbage, cover and cook about 5 minutes until lightly wilted.
  3. Add the Mesa de Vida cooking sauce, 1/4 cup water (shake it out in the bottle to get all of the goodness out), canned tomatoes and salt to taste.
  4. Bring to a simmer, the lower the heat to low and cover. Simmer for 25-30 minutes until the cabbage is soft and tender.
  5. Serve spooned over hot cooked rice or pasta, mashed potatoes or cauliflower mash. Enjoy!
