The heat is intense here in Pittsburgh, and my legs are covered in bug bites, which can only mean one thing. Summer is really here. The weather is…unique here in Pittsburgh, and the start of our summer was chilly, rainy, and grey. Now the sun is out and we are getting a serious heat wave!
Some people think we are ridiculous, but we grill all year round. And by we, I mean Bill. I singed my eyebrows the first time I used a grill on my own, so I usually leave the grilling to Bill. Since we love to heat up the grill and cook some steaks, chicken, ribs, fish, and veggies, we have quite a few spice blends that make your summer barbecues even tastier!
Most of our spice blends are great for grilled recipes. I love making marinated grilled chicken with our Super Gyro Seasoning! I have created a collection of my favorite recipes to make on the grill here on FoodSocial. You can view my full recipe collection here!
The three blends I want to talk about today are our Steak Seasoning, Barbecue Rub, and our Smokehouse Rub. Two of them have been spicy favorites of yours for years, and one of them doesn’t get the love it truly deserves. Can you guess which one is our unsung hero? If you guessed Smokehouse Rub, you are correct!

Our Steak Seasoning launched with our Griddle and Grill pack back in 2016 (I think it was 2016…) It is a coarse blend with course sea salt, onion, black pepper, garlic, chilies, thyme, rosemary, dill, and coriander. It packs a hint of heat from the red pepper flakes, and has the best crunch from the coarse salt. It’s amazing on everything from grilled or roasted veggies, potatoes (white and sweet), chicken, fish, pork, and beef. I even love it on hard boiled eggs! You can also use it like an everything bagel seasoning, and season the tops of your bagels with it!

Our Barbecue Rub has been with us since day 1! It launched with our Signature Blends pack, the very first pack of spice blends we released. This blend includes: Pink Himalayan Salt, Onion, Garlic, Paprika, Oregano, Turmeric, Black Pepper, Ginger, Cumin, Cayenne, Coriander. It is so flavorful, and is great as a dry rub for ribs, mixed into meatballs or burgers, grilled chicken, fish, and used as a rub for pulled pork. We love it on homemade fries as well!

Our Smokehouse Rub is the one that doesn’t get the love it deserves. This is a blend I wanted to make for YEARS. I had the name picked out, and a whole vision for the flavor profile. It was like I was planning for a baby, haha. I wanted a barbecue rub that tasted like a barbecue potato chip, and I have to say…I nailed it. It’s smoky, sweet, with a little kick of heat. I can eat this blend with a spoon out of the jar. I don’t do that, but I could! You can absolutely make homemade barbecue potato chips with this blend, or barbecue chip flavored french fries! It’s amazing on wings, ribs, chicken thighs, as a rub for pulled pork, and barbecue shrimp.

It’s really one of my favorite blends that I’ve developed, but not enough of you know about it! I decided to mom guilt everyone into trying it, so I’m including it as a free gift in your order when you spend $49+ through the end of June. At $49 you also get free shipping! If you spend $100, you’ll get a back of our Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour for free as well!
